Examination of the foam isolation for cryogenic environments

Evaluation of foamsIn this application example, the SynViewScan 300 3D Terahertz (THz) Imaging System was used to test samples of foam as they are typically used in aerospace applications.

The measurement goal was to investigate how Terahertz (THz) / Millimeter Waves allow the evaluation of special foam material intended for the isolation of cryogenic tanks. Both defects of the bulk foam material and of the interfaces to the metallic carrier plate are addressed. 3D THz Imaging always gives the full 3D volume information of the measured sample, similar to subsonic or x-ray methods.

The results demonstrate that the SynView Terahertz imaging technology can identify defects both on the metal-foam interface and within the foam material. Please download the application note for further details.
