Detection of GFRP Ondulations

Faserondulation In several innovative branches like the wind energy industry material defects can cause fatal effects. An early detection of manufacturing errors such as ondulations (bucklings), delaminations, and other material defects is possible using the fast and reliable terahertz technology of the SynView GmbH.

An example in the area of non-destructive testing of GFRP samples is the search for a de-bonding of the individual glass fiber layers. Sometimes in the production process the layers are moved against each other and defects called “bucklings” occur. The defect cannot be seen by eye-inspection from the top side of the sample, because the top layer stays flat.

By evaluating the full 3D THz data set layer by layer, it is not only possible to detect defects but also to identify in which layer, i.e. sample height position, the defect occurs.
